Eggerland Wiki

Eggerland 2, released in Japan under the title Meikyu Shinwa (迷宮神話, Labyrinth Myth), is a puzzle game developed by HAL Laboratory and released in 1986 for the MSX2 home computer in Japan and Europe. In 1987 it was ported to the Famicom Disk System under the title Eggerland.

Overview[]

Eggerland 2 plays much like its predecessor, featuring a total of 122 stages: 100 ground levels, 9 time limit levels, and 13 final levels. This game ditches the linear progression of the first game in favor of a grid structure, with levels having multiple exits leading to different levels. Some of those exits are blocked, requiring the player to obtain a key first in order to pass through them. The player is still tasked with completing all levels in order to reach the ending; to help navigate the maze the player can obtain a Map item.

This game introduces different terrain types, each with their own set of obstacles and hazards. It also marks the first appearance of the Don Medusa, Rocky and Leaper enemies. King Egger is also shown for the first time; while in the original MSX2 release he only appears during cutscenes, in the FDS port he is fought at the end in a jankenpo match.

Story[]

In Edenerland, a land of milk and honey, the inhabitants enjoyed peaceful days for many centuries. Birds sang, flowers bloomed in profusion, and all the country was filled with love and peace. However, one day, the Great Devil of Destruction appeared from the underground darkness and attacked Edenerland with his corps of devilish brutes. As a result, Edenerland turned into a desolate battlefield in only one night. Many people fell into the clutches of devilish brutes, and the fields where flowers had been blooming and the forests where birds had been singing were not what they used to be.

In such a national crisis, the king of Edenerland sent his daughter Lala to Great God, Edener, with a mission to defeat the Great Devil of Destruction. The Great God, Edener, gave Lala the "Infinite Power" which was the symbol of love and courage.

Egger, the Great Devil of Destruction, found out and captured Lala way and confined her in his country, Eggerland. But, the wise princess Lala succeeded in dividing the "Infinite Power" into several parts and hiding them in several secret places unknown to the Great Devil. Edenerland was in fear and despair at the news that Lala was captured.

At such a moment, Lolo, the prince of Gentryland visited Edenerland, Once he heard the sad story from the King of Edenerland, Lolo started for the nether world alone. How is the fate of Lolo and Edenerland?

A Commandment of the Great God, Edener: "Never put two Eggers into the river of Eggerland!" If you put two Eggers into the river of Eggerland, disregarding Edener's Commandment, Lolo will be captured by the Great Devil, Egger, and cannot continue on his journey. In this case, as a penalty of disregard, Password, Continue, and suicide cannot be performed. This may be too hard on you, but if you want to continue the game, you must turn the power off and start again.
